AFAIK I was one of the earliest to recognize placing a larger cover over the silver dome...did it back in the 70's
Two benefits are gets rid of the coloration of the dome, and also adds a bit of mass lowering the FS.
bfish had a nice improvement...a vented dome, that way the look more "Old Altec" in appearance...I don't know if regular Altec domes are big enough, may have to go a size larger...
They are VERY under rated for Hi-Fi, 'specially with subs.
